Michigan Auto Insurance Laws, Facts, and Tips

Michigan no-fault auto insurance has its own set of laws and regulations. Get the facts, plus some buying tips to help you get the best coverage for your money as a Michigan driver.

In the state of Michigan, auto insurance is the law. Michigan’s mandatory auto insurance is called Michigan No Fault Insurance. Michigan’s no fault system has been in place since 1973. No fault means, if you are involved in an accident, it doesn’t matter who is at fault. Your auto insurance covers you, and the other party’s auto insurance covers them.

Michigan No Fault Insurance applies to owners of passenger vehicles, light trucks, vans, and motorcycles. In Michigan, owners of these types of vehicles are prohibited from registering their vehicles until the minimum liability auto insurance requirements have been met. Michigan insurance laws state that all drivers must carry $20,000 bodily injury liability for one person, $40,000 bodily injury liability for all injuries in one accident, and $10,000 property damage liability (20,40/10). Because Michigan’s minimum requirements are low, most insurance providers will recommend purchasing higher amounts than the bare minimum and/or uninsured/underinsured motorist coverage.

In addition, proof of liability insurance must be carried in the vehicle at all times. Once you obtain auto insurance from an agent or company licensed to do business in the state of Michigan, you will receive a Michigan No Fault insurance certificate. This certificate must be carried in the vehicle at all times. Under Michigan law, a la enforcement officer can request proof of insurance for any reason at any time. If you fail to provide proof of auto insurance upon request, the Secretary of State will suspend your driver’s license. Your driver’s license cannot be reinstated until you provide proof of insurance. And according to Autoinsurancetips.com, until proof of insurance is shown, the Secretary of State will not renew, transfer, or replace your vehicle’s license plate. The cost to have you license reinstated could cost up to $50 plus any other fees required by Michigan law.

When you are ready to begin shopping for Michigan auto insurance, you should have the following information on hand: car year, make and model, how much you drive, and prior insurance coverage (if applicable). In addition, auto insurance agents will ask a series of questions to help assess risk. These include: age, gender, where you live, employment, number of drivers, and driving record. In addition, many Michigan auto insurance providers will ask you to provide a social security number. Insurance companies use credit history to help assign an insurance risk score. Auto insurance companies believe that individuals with a low credit score are more likely to file claims. In some cases, a low credit score will cause higher rates or the insurance company may refuse to extend an insurance offer altogether.

In 2008, Michigan residents paid an average of $980 per year for auto insurance making Michigan the 13th most expensive state in the nation for auto insurance. At $1,140 per year, the most expensive place in the U.S. for auto insurance is the District of Columbia, followed by New Jersey at $1,104, and Louisiana $1,096.

Auto Insurance Basics, Auto Insurance Laws in California

Auto insurance has two types. One is two cover for the damages you incur due to traffic accidents and another is to cover the loss you incur due to damages you cause when accidents are triggered by you. How much insurance coverage is required must be researched before deciding on one for your insurance or liability insurance.

Auto Insurance Basics - Ways To Save On Your Coverage

Auto insurance is one of those things that is just a “fact of life”. It’s important, it’s required, IT’S THE LAW! Significant changes to auto insurance laws are constantly being made at the state and federal level. These changes directly affect auto insurance providers and the drivers that they insure.

It is only fitting that auto insurance policies and procedures differ from state to state. This is because each state has it’s own set of challenges and issues that relate to motorists and their driving patterns. For example, tons of California drivers have to regularly contend with the 405-freeway. This heavily traveled freeway is part of the California Freeway and Expressway System and is reported as being the busiest and most congested freeway in the United States! Obviously, certain laws that are applicable in California would not even be necessary in a small city, with much less traveled streets and roads. It stands to reason, the more motorists on the road, the more opportunities exist for collisions, and other related auto incidents. This in turn makes it necessary for not just more insurance laws, but specific laws that address the needs of each locality.

Whether auto insurance is being purchased for a teenage driver, a middle-aged driver, or a more seasoned driver, everyone wants to pay the lowest down payment possible. This is also true about paying the lowest monthly auto insurance premiums. Depending on the insured, the state of residence, and the circumstances, overall auto insurance can tend to be high. So much so, you can barely afford to pay your auto insurance AND put gas in your car the same month. Thousands of insured motorists continue to pay high monthly auto premiums, only to have their vehicles sit parked in the driveway!

When purchasing auto insurance, many people are attracted to the ideal of a low down payment. Our money is so stretched as it is, most people want to hold on to it as long as they can! However, it’s important to keep in mind that a low down payment will affect your regular monthly premiums. You may save a little when you first start the policy, but you are going to be paying more than you have to, EVERY single month. Generally, you end up paying more in the long run.

On the other hand, if you go on and make a larger payment when you first get your policy, you could end up actually saving money. So while an insurance provider may require a large down payment, your regular monthly premium will generally be lower. If your cash situation will allow you to pay a little more down when buying auto insurance, don’t grumble about it. Just pay it! You’ll be happy you can hold on to those few extra bucks each month.

Young People Behind The Wheel

If you’re a middle-aged adult and you think your insurance premiums are too high, you must not have had to insure a teenager or young adult recently! Auto insurance rates have definitely skyrocketed, but especially so for teenage drivers. The fact is, for new and inexperienced drivers, the costs can be exorbitant!

The rates that are already excessive can increase even more for drivers who fall into a demographic group that insurance companies view as high risk. One example of such a group is: young men between the ages of 16 and 21 years old. They are actually considered to be the worst drivers, at least in terms of frequency of accidents, and quite frankly, the Insurance companies don't view teenage girls that much differently. It may seem discriminatory, but teenagers and young adult drivers just get a bad rap, all the way around!

To these young people, it might appear unfair, but the truth of the matter is, there are statistics that show that young drivers are more likely to be involved in an accident than any other group. Statistics such as these can be credited for the skyrocketing insurance premiums for teen and young adult drivers.

So what should you do if you’re a parent, or someone interested in purchasing auto insurance for a young driver, and what things can help to keep your auto insurance costs lower?

If you’re reading this information, you probably have already purchased a vehicle for your teenage new driver, but if you haven’t, here are some things to keep in mind before you buy a car for a young person. Even if you are in a position to purchase a brand new car, especially a muscle car, SUV, or high end car, like most young people want to drive. While money may or may not be a factor in your purchase, keep in mind, the type of vehicle is directly connected to the type of insurance rates you will be paying. That being said, let your teen drive a car that will not encourage recklessness.

Since the insurance companies read the statistics, and make generalizations about types of drivers, generally speaking, if a teenager is driving a Chevy Corvette, they are more likely to speed and drive recklessly. The temptation to show off and perform illegal traffic maneuvers is stronger in this type of car, then something like a Ford Focus. Because the insurance companies realize this, the auto premiums for teenagers who drive sportier cars is going to be much higher than for those driving other kinds of vehicles. It is wise to keep this point in mind, regardless of what type of car you decide to buy. Doing so may save you thousands on the vehicle of choice, as well as on the monthly insurance premiums.

Compare Insurance Coverage

When shopping for automobile insurance, it is very important that you don’t simply stop at the first quote you get from an insurance company. For the best rate, it is necessary to shop around. One good ideal is to go with an experienced Licensed Broker. Because they work with multiple companies, they are in a better position to get you the best rates for your money. They actually do the shopping around for you, and they even have broker secrets that you will be able to monopolize on. In the long run, you could end up saving hundreds, and sometimes thousands of dollars.

Insurance Is Not Just Coverage

When it comes to insuring young drivers on the road, it goes beyond the kind of car they are driving, and the type of coverage they possess. It is also about (among other things) how they drive, who rides with them. Many young drivers end up grounded or with their licenses taken, through no direct fault of their own. This is because they failed to be mindful about certain driving related issues. To help your young driver stay on track, regularly communicate with them, and make sure they know and understand your rules and restrictions, when it comes to how they are allowed to drive, who they are allowed to drive, and where they are allowed to drive. Keeping these lines of communication open will help to insure your young person on the road. Just think of it as additional coverage

How Much Coverage Is Really Necessary

Since today’s economy is in a terrible slump, people are finding ways to trim the fat wherever they possibly can. Some expenses that are not really necessities are being reduced or eliminated altogether. While many things can be scaled down to accommodate a tight budget, should auto insurance be added to the long list of non essentials? When it comes to automobile coverage, just how much is really necessary?

Most people mistakenly think if they have liability auto coverage, at least that covers the basics. They are under the misguided impression that liability auto coverage will at least take care of the other driver if there’s ever an accident. In actuality, even if you have liability coverage, it may only partially cover the other vehicle and driver. That doesn’t necessarily take into account the complete amount of damage to their vehicle, or the total amount of passengers (if any) in the other vehicle. So getting just liability auto insurance still may not be enough coverage! For a little more insight on this, let’s consider the state of California.

A Look At California Laws

The state of California changed the way the Department of Motor Vehicles verifies automobile insurance for privately owned vehicles. The Vehicle Financial Responsibility Law of 2006 requires California insurance companies to electronically report private-use vehicle insurance
information to DMV. Law enforcement, as well as court personnel, all have electronic access to DMV’s insurance records.

The changes were implemented to ensure that vehicles traveling on California roads have at least the minimum requirement of insurance coverage. This would provide financial responsibility for damages or injuries that may result from traffic accidents, regardless of fault. The lawmakers hoped this would also help to remove uninsured vehicles from the roads.

While liability insurance is supposed to compensate the other driver for personal injury or property damages, the truth is, sometimes it is not enough to cover all the expenses.

Pay A Little Extra And Get A Lot More

Some drivers decide it makes sense to pay a little extra and get comprehensive auto insurance. Doing so will get you a lot more coverage on your auto policy, and can really be a smart choice. Unlike liability insurance, comprehensive insurance does provide for some protection for yourself and your own car. If you drive a more seasoned (nice expression for beat up) automobile, you may not be too concerned about any damage to your own car, but keep in mind, not only can simple liability fail to cover your medical expenses, if any, but, as previously stated, it may not even completely cover the other driver’s expenses. For example, an average liability policy may only cover up to $10,000 in damages to the other party. If you incur damages that exceed that amount (which is highly likely), you’re out of pocket for the rest of the expense. Additionally, you will have to cover your own damages and expenses to you, your car, and passengers (if applicable).

Paying a little extra for additional auto insurance is not always that much more expensive than basic liability coverage. Some individuals learn to adjust their expenses so they can save enough money to pay a little extra for auto coverage. Overall, this can end up saving them a lot more in the long run.

Your monthly auto insurance premiums are affected by a number of variables including: your yearly deductible, amount of coverage, the city and state you live in, and other issues. Any one, of these things can affect your monthly auto insurance premiums, as well as the amount you initially pay to get started. if saving a little money is prompting you to purchase only liability insurance, you may want to re-evaluate that decision and choose another option.

Can People Above Age of 30 Play Video Games?

This is an interesting question for all the video game players out there. Can you still play video games above age of 30? Well, the statistics indicate that more and more people are increasingly playing above age of 30. More older people are playing than ever before. It has to do with what you as the player like to do than what others consider as right or wrong. Keywords: video games age, video games age restriction, video games age group, video games age rating, video games for adults.

Is It Cool To Play Video Games Over 30?

The market for video games keeps getting bigger and better. But when you reach 30, is it still cool to be playing them?

When I met the man that is now my husband 3 years ago, I had only ever played on one video game system: Super Nintendo. My parents got it for me and my siblings when we were younger. I hadn’t touched a controller since. But, like every girl who wants to impress a guy, I went along with him and started playing games with him.

I was hooked.

My favorites are turn-based RPGs. He started me out on Final Fantasy 7, and then when we got a PS2, I started playing Final Fantasy 10. There were many different games in between as well.

Even now that we are married, our favorite thing to do together is to play video games. We have an Xbox 360 now and that just makes the video game experience even better. We really enjoyed playing Resident Evil 5 together.

I have noticed, though that more and more older people look down on us for spending our free time playing games. Is there really something wrong with playing video games after you have reached a certain age?

According to the Pew Research Center, a little over 50% of adult Americans play video games. The numbers in their research indicated that adults, ages 18-29 were more likely to play video games than older adults. There are now reports though, of Wii systems being used in some nursing homes to allow the elderly to exercise and have some fun.

About half of our friends are over thirty and most are anxiously awaiting the release of God of War 3 and Final Fantasy 13. My parents spend most nights bowling on their Wii. Is it wrong? I don’t think so. It is what we choose to do for entertainment.

So is it cool to play video games after 30? I’ll still be playing. I’ll see you all on Xbox Live.

Life Insurance Types, Term, Whole, Universal, Accidental, Limited-Pay Life Insurance

There are various types of Life Insurance for humans other than the insurance types for non-living beings like vehicles, buildings, events etc. These various types range from simple timeframe difference to complicated problems such as insurance for existing health problems or insurance for people living in danger prone regions or insurance for people working in life-risky professions.

Life Insurance Types, Term, Whole, Universal, Accidental, Limited-Pay Life Insurance
By Flickr

Life Insurance from Wikipedia

Life insurance or life assurance is a contract between the policy owner and the insurer, where the insurer agrees to pay a designated beneficiary a sum of money upon the occurrence of the insured individual's or individuals' death or other event, such as terminal illness or critical illness.

Life Insurance Types, Term, Whole, Universal, Accidental, Limited-Pay Life Insurance
By Flickr

Life Insurance Types

Life Insurance for Short Term or Long Term without any other benefits called Term Life Insurance.

Whole Life Insurance requires more premium than term life insurance but provides cash value after maturity or upon the unfortunate covered event. You can get your money back (although not adjusted for inflation) after maturity. Term will usually be long term.

Universal Life Insurance is similar to Whole life Insurance except that it gives higher interest rate to be paid after maturity. Both types also offer loan facility. But the premium and additional charges will be higher for this.

Accidental Death insurance only covers the insured for the accidental or sudden death from health related problems, motor accidents, or suicides. Due to their limited nature of coverage their premium cost is much less.

Limited Pay insurance is a permanent life insurance type like the above which covers for long term (10, 20 or 30 years) but the premium payments are contracted only for short time period say 5 years and still cover for the entire insured period. Premium value in this case can be very high.

Other than this there are similar limited insurance types covering people with existing health problems or diseases, smoking people or insurance for a group of people etc.

All insurance types have their own advantages and disadvantages. One should do thorough research on what needs to be insured and why, affordability or cost value of insurance contract, a realistic time period for which insurance is needed. Fortunately in this competitive market there is always a life insurance available for your needs.

Air Travel Rules with Electronics, Laptops & Batteries

Know The Air Travel Rules When Traveling With Electronics Like Batteries and Laptops

It’s common for most people to use electronic devices during their travel either as a form of enjoyment or work related. Air travel rules related to traveling with electronics permit devices such as laptop, mobile phone, multimedia player, etc.

However, due to the widespread use of these high technology gadgets, the Department of Transportation (DOT) does not allow loose lithium batteries to be placed in checked baggage since they are considered as fire hazards. This ruling took effect last January 1, 2008 which modified air travel rules related to traveling with electronics. The electronic equipment and batteries should be placed in the carry-on baggage to easily alert flight crew in case a fire occurs.

Air Travel Rules- Batteries in Electronic Devices

Air travel rules related to traveling with electronics are not strict about electronic devices but they are more concerned on the batteries that come along with it. Batteries if not properly handled are often described as fire hazards.

Air travel rules related to traveling with electronics suggest that batteries should be bought only from reputable suppliers to avoid compromising everyone’s safety. As a basic guide, high quality batteries were independently tested by the International Electrotechnical Commission (IEC) or the Underwriters Laboratories (UL) thus batteries should bear their respective markings to indicate that the batteries passed all quality control tests.

Air travel rules related to traveling with electronics have the following general recommendations when bringing a battery with you:
1. Avoid carrying damaged or recalled batteries by checking with the manufacturer’s website;

2. Only rechargeable batteries should be charged using compatible chargers. Be sure that what you previously charged and include in your possession are rechargeable batteries;

3. Insulate battery terminals if original packing is no longer available;

4. Batteries must be prevented from puncturing and crushing by placing them in their protective case; and,

5. Put a tape on the switch of battery-operated devices like cordless power tools, in “off” position to avoid accidentally switching it to “On” and discharge them in the process.

Air travel rules related to traveling with electronics containing lithium-ion and lithium batteries are no longer allowed in large quantities as part of the cargo of passenger aircraft due to their fire hazardous characteristics. This was based on the extensive researches made by the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA).

FAA studies also revealed that an explosion is not likely to happen even if lithium-on or primary lithium batteries are shorted. However, both batteries are extremely flammable. Moreover, fire extinguishers typically carried on commercial plane can only extinguish fire caused by lithium-ion batteries but not lithium batteries. Thus, air travel rules related to traveling with electronics are under the watchful eye of trained security officers for possible explosive threats that will be brought by lithium batteries.

Air Travel Rules – Laptops

Air travel rules related to traveling with electronics specifically recommend that laptops should be placed in “checkpoint friendly” laptop bags
. The “checkpoint friendly” laptop bag allows the Security Officers to easily see from the X-ray machine any tampering made on the laptop. However, you can still bring along your laptop even if it is not placed in a “checkpoint friendly” laptop bag but subject to intensive inspection.

Air travel rules related to traveling with electronics further recommend that laptop placed in “checkpoint friendly” laptop bag should be positioned flat on the X-ray belt intended for laptop-only section. The bag has no other compartment while the top and underneath portion has no zippers or metal snaps and can give a clear image of the laptop when screened in the X-ray machine.

Air travel rules related to traveling with electronics specially laptops, maintain that there is no specific manufacturer or bag design that will earn the endorsement or approval of airport authorities, other than its basic requirement. As long as the bag can present a clear image when subjected to the X-ray machine, it will serve the security officers’ purposes. On the other hand, if the laptop bag reflects a distinct image, the laptop will be screened separately under air travel rules, traveling with electronics.

“Canadian side of the Falls.

The Niagara Falls are voluminous waterfalls on the Niagara River, straddling the international border between the Canadian province of Ontario and the U.S. state of New York. The falls are 17 miles (27 km) north-northwest of Buffalo, New York and 75 miles (120 km) south-southeast of Toronto, Ontario, between the twin cities of Niagara Falls, Ontario, and Niagara Falls, New York.

Niagara Falls is composed of two major sections separated by Goat Island: Horseshoe Falls, the majority of which lies on the Canadian side of the border, and American Falls on the American side. The smaller Bridal Veil Falls are also located on the American side, separated from the main falls by Luna Island.”

“This weir on the river Ouse is related to Town Mill. The road crossing the Lords Bridge is Hunter St. which leads to the 'prebend end beyond the water'. The weir and mill now fall within Buckingham University's Hunter Street campus.”

Salto Bosseti

“No circuito superior, o mais rápido, as quedas são apreciadas desde o alto, com visão panorâmica das ilhas da região. O circuito inferior tem centenas de degraus, mas o esforço físico se faz recompensar pelos ângulos surpreendentes. O clímax fica reservado ao Salto Bosseti: quem vai até o final da passarela pode praticamente tocar a cachoeira, voltar encharcado e feliz pela aventura.”

“Devil's Throat. - Garganta del Diablo

It's impressive. When you come to reach this fall and you look straight at it, like in the picture, looking at the falling water losing itself in the vapours and mist and nothingness, the feeling is overwhelmming... tears run down your eyes. It's very touching. I guess because it looks very sad, like the abyss of death... but it's not an image you expect to see in real life, but only in your imagination or in dreams. An here is for real, such and dreamlike scape in front of you.

Also I thought it might make us cry because of the water element... it's our innermost nature, the element of life, and actually it's what psychology refers to, in our unconscious, as the archetype of the Mother.

Whatever it is... it's definitely something else. A before-after experience of connection with nature. What do you think? Have you been seen it?

Iguazú falls, Argentina.”

“A waterfall in the Ann Frank memorial in downtown Boise, There are three of these waterfalls and the wall all around the place have quotes of various civil rights people. I have always wanted to try water falls shots and this was the first time I had a decent waterfall to play with. Something about the water being so smooth and creamy I just love.”
