SD Memory Card (Secure Digital) Price in India (1GB, 2GB, 4GB, 8GB, 16GB, 32GB)


SD memory cards (Secure Digital) are now available much cheaper prices in Indian electronic stores. Most SD cards range in capacity from 1GB to 8GB as their physical size is larger. The SD memory card prices range from rupees 200 to 800 in India.

SD card stands for Secure Digital card. They are small card like chips which are capable of storing digital information in the range of 1GB to as high as 32GB including high capacity (SDHC) cards. Secure Digital (SD Card) memory is based on Flash memory. They have the life time of about 3 to 10 years depending on how often you erase the memory.

The SD cards are now most commonly used as extension memory for extension slots in MP3 players, Mobile phones, Digital video players, Digital Cameras etc. Digital cameras are the ones that compulsorily need external memory as internal memory is limited to few MBs only. Some digital video cameras that are capable of capturing videos for several days need story capacities of upto 64GB for which high capacity (SDHC) type of SD memory cards are used.

The price of SD memory cards in India range from Rs. 199 for 1GB to Rs. 800 for 8GB. Higher capacities are available only in SDHC type and not in SD card. Your device’s extension slot must be compatible with the type of card you choose. Some are compatible with all SD, SDHC and also microSD (new entrant) types but some are only compatible either of them. Don’t buy them in hurry when in doubt.

A wide variety of USB memory sticks (pen drives) are available in Indian stores according to brand (Transcend HP Kingston Moserbear Toshiba Sandisk Imation) and capacity (1GB 2GB 4GB 8GB 16GB 32GB 64GB 128GB 256GB). Their prices, which depend on capacity/brand, are reducing day by day and range from 150 rupees to 7000 rupees for the most used drives.

USB memory sticks are widely used for their small size for relatively huge non-volatile storage capacities, high portability (you can hide it even in your mouth), compatibility with any computer that has atleast one Usb port, sleek and cute designs and some are sexy transparent. These are very advantageous compared to CD, DVD, older floppy or other non-volatile storage mediums. And they are also more reliable than CDs/DVDs as the latter can get damaged irreparably with scratches and the USB memory sticks (also known as pen drives) are nowadays coming as waterproof and shock resistant.
